أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْأَسَدِيُّ الْحَافِظُ بِهَمْدَانَ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ دِيزِيلَ ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْفَرْوِيُّ حَدَّثَتْنَا أُمُّ فَرْوَةَ بِنْتُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَبِيهَا عَنْ جَدِّهَا الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أُمِّهِ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمَّا خَرَجَ إِلَى الْخَنْدَقِ جَعَلَ نِسَاءَهُ فِي أُطُمٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ فَارِعٌ وَجَعَلَ مَعَهُنَّ حَسَّانَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ فَجَاءَ الْيَهُودُ إِلَى الْأُطُمِ يَلْتَمِسُونَ غِرَّةَ نِسَاءِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَتَرَقَّى إِنْسَانُ مِنَ الْأُطُمِ عَلَيْنَا فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَا حَسَّانُ قُمْ إِلَيْهِ فَاقْتُلْهُ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ مَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ فِيَّ وَلَوْ كَانَ ذَلِكَ فِيَّ لَكُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ ارْبِطْ هَذَا السَّيْفِ عَلَى ذِرَاعِي فَرَبَطَهُ فَقُمْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَضَرَبْتُ رَأْسَهُ حَتَّى قَطَعْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ خُذْ بِأُذُنَيْهِ فَارْمِ بِهِ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ مَا ذَلِكَ فِيَّ فَأَخَذْتُ بِرَأْسِهِ فَرَمَيْتُ بِهِ عَلَيْهِمْ فَتَضَعْضَعُوا وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ قَدْ عَلِمْنَا أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا لَمْ يَكُنْ لِيَتْرُكَ أَهْلَهُ خُلُوفًا لَيْسَ مَعَهُنَّ أَحَدٌ قَالَتْ «وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ شَدَّ حَسَّانَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ مَعَنَا فِي الْحِصْنِ فَإِذَا رَجَعَ رَجَعَ وَرَاءَهُ كَمَا يَرْجِعُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ ثَمَّ فَمَرَّ بِنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ وَقَدْ أَخَذَ صُفْرَةً وَهُوَ بِعُرْسٍ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ بِأَيَّامٍ وَهُوَ يَرْتَجِزُ [البحر الرجز] مَهْلًا قَلِيلًا يَلْحَقِ الْهَيْجَا جَمَلْ لَا بَأْسَ بِالْمَوْتِ إِذَا حَلَّ الْأَجَلْ» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ «فَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَجُلًا أَجْمَلَ مِنْهُ فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ»

✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the Trench, he placed his wives in a fortress called Fari', and he placed Hassan b. Thabit with them. Then the Jews came to the fortress seeking an opportunity against the wives of the Prophet ﷺ. A man from the fortress climbed up upon us, so I said to him, "O Hassan, get up to him and kill him." He said, "By Allah, that is not in me. If that were in me, I would have been with the Prophet ﷺ." I said to him, "Tie this sword to my arm." So he tied it, and I got up to him and struck his head until I severed it. I said to him, "Take him by his ears and throw him at them." He said, "By Allah, that is not in me." So I took his head and threw it at them, and they fell back, saying, "We knew that Muhammad would not leave his family as a rear guard with no one with them." She said, "When the polytheists pressed hard, Hassan went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was with us in the fortress, and when he returned, he returned behind him just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned, while he was there. Sa'd b. Mu'adh passed by us, having taken some yellow dye, and he was at a wedding celebration a few days before that, and he was reciting rajaz poetry: 'Slowly, a little; the battle will catch up with the camel. No harm in death when the appointed time arrives.'" A'ishah said, "I never saw a man more handsome than him on that day."
