✧ He said to his brother Malik b. Hayda: 'Come with us to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, for he knows you but does not know me. He has detained some people from my neighbors.' We came to him, and Malik b. Hayda said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have embraced Islam, and my neighbors have embraced Islam, so release them.' He did not answer him. Then he repeated, and he did not answer him. Then he stood up in anger and said, 'If I do that, they will claim that you call to the matter but conflict with something else.' I started to rebuke him and forbid him. He said, 'What does he say?' They said, 'He says such and such.' He said, 'If I do that, then that is upon me, not upon them in any way. Release his neighbors for him.' Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
