حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ حَمْدَانَ الْجَلَّابُ بِهَمْدَانَ ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ حَرَسَهَا اللَّهُ تَعَالَى حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ دَخَلَ مُعَاوِيَةُ عَلَى أَبِي هَاشِمِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ وَهُوَ يَبْكِي فَقَالَ

يَا خَالُ مَا يُبْكِيكَ؟ أَوَجَعٌ أَوْ حُزْنٌ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا؟ فَقَالَ كَلَّا وَلَكِنْ عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَهْدًا لَمْ آخُذْ بِهِ قَالَ لِي «يَا أَبَا هَاشِمٍ إِنَّهَا سَتُدْرِكُكَ أَمْوَالٌ يُؤْتَاهَا أَقْوَامٌ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

✧ O uncle, what makes you weep? Is it pain or sorrow over the world? He said, "Not at all, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a covenant with me that I did not fulfill. He said to me, 'O Abu Hashim, wealth will reach you, given to some people.'" Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
