حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزِيدٍ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ شَابُورٍ حَدَّثَنِي خَالِدُ بْنُ دِهْقَانَ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ سَبَلَانَ عَنْ كُهَيْلِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ قَالَ
قَدِمَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ دِمَشْقَ فَنَزَلَ عَلَى أَبِي كُلْثُومٍ السَّدُوسِيِّ فَأَتَيْنَاهُ فَتَذَاكَرْنَا الصَّلَاةَ الْوُسْطَى فَاخْتَلَفْنَا فِيهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ «اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِيهَا كَمَا اخْتَلَفْنَا فِيهَا وَنَحْنُ بِقُبَاءَ عِنْدَ بَيْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَفِينَا الرَّجُلُ الصَّالِحُ أَبُو هَاشِمِ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ فَقَامَ فَدَخَلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ جَرِيئًا عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا فَأَخْبَرَنَا أَنَّهَا الْعَصْرُ»

✧ Abu Hurayrah came to Damascus and stayed with Abu Kulthum al-Sadusi. We came to him and discussed the middle prayer, and we differed about it. Abu Hurayrah said, "You have differed about it just as we differed about it while we were at Quba, near the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Among us was the righteous man Abu Hashim b. 'Utbah b. Rabi'ah. He stood up and entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, being bold with him, then he came out to us and informed us that it is 'Asr."
