✧ When the people came for Hajj in the year nine, 'Urwah b. Mas'ud al-Thaqafi, the paternal uncle of al-Mughirah b. Shu'bah, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to return to his people. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I fear that they will kill you." He said: "Even if they find me sleeping, they would wake me." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him permission, and he returned to his people as a Muslim. He arrived at night, and Thaqif came to him. He called them to Islam, but they accused him, disobeyed him, and made him hear what he had not expected. Then they left him, and when it was late night and dawn broke, 'Urwah stood in his house, called the adhan for prayer, and recited the tashahhud. A man from Thaqif shot him with an arrow and killed him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The example of 'Urwah is like the example of the companion of Ya-Sin: he called his people to Allah, the Exalted, and they killed him."
