Translation

✧ He came as a delegate to ‘Umar b. al-Khattab one year. ‘Uqbah said: I was wearing leather socks of those thick ones. ‘Umar said to me, “When did you last put them on?” I said, “I put them on on Friday, and this is Friday.” He said to me, “You have followed the Sunnah.”

Faḍālah and Ibn Lahīʿah followed him, from Yazīd b. Abī Ḥabīb, from ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ḥakam al-Balawī, from ʿAlī b. Rabāḥ, and they both said in it: "You have hit upon the Sunnah." But ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith, Yaḥyā b. Ayyūb and al-Layth b. Saʿd differed from them and said in it: "ʿUmar said: You have done right," and they did not say "the Sunnah" as those before them said.
