✧ A mule was gifted to the Prophet ﷺ, which Chosroes had given him. He rode it with a halter of hair, then seated me behind him. Then he traveled with me for a long while, then turned and said, 'O boy.' I said, 'At your service, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Preserve Allah and He will preserve you. Preserve Allah and you will find Him before you. Become acquainted with Allah in times of ease, and He will know you in times of hardship. When you ask, ask Allah; when you seek help, seek help from Allah. The pen has dried with what is to be. If people were to strive to benefit you with something Allah has not decreed for you, they would not be able to do it. If people were to strive to harm you with something Allah has not written against you, they would not be able to do it. If you are able to act with patience along with certainty, do so; if you cannot, then be patient, for in patience over what you dislike there is much good. Know that with patience comes victory, with distress comes relief, and with hardship comes ease.'
