حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَالَوَيْهِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ النَّضْرِ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيِّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ شَدَّادٍ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ

«يَا ابْنَ شَدَّادٍ أَلَا تَعْجَبُ جَاءَنِي الْغُلَامُ وَقَدْ أَخَذْتَ مَضْجَعِي لِلْقَيْلُولَةِ» فَقَالَ هَذَا رَجُلٌ بِالْبَابِ يَسْتَأْذِنُ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ «مَا جَاءَ بِهِ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ إِلَّا حَاجَةٌ ائْذَنْ لَهُ» قَالَ فَدَخَلَ فَقَالَ أَلَا تُخْبِرْنِي عَنْ ذَاكِ الرَّجُلِ؟ قُلْتُ «أَيُّ رَجُلٍ؟» قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبَى طَالِبٍ قُلْتُ «عَنْ أَيِّ شَأْنِهِ؟» قَالَ مَتَى يُبْعَثُ؟ قُلْتُ «سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ يُبْعَثُ إِذَا بُعِثَ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ» قَالَ فَقَالَ أَلَا أَرَاكَ تَقُولُ كَمَا يَقُولُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْحَمْقَاءُ فَقُلْتُ «أَخْرِجُوا عَنِّي هَذَا فَلَا يَدْخُلَنَّ عَلَيَّ هَذَا أَوْ لَأَضْرِبَنَّهُ»

✧ O Ibn Shaddad, will you not be amazed? The boy came to me while I had taken my place for the midday nap, and said, 'There is a man at the door seeking permission.' I said, 'Nothing brought him at this hour except a need; give him permission.' He entered and said, 'Will you not tell me about that man?' I said, 'Which man?' He said, 'Ali b. Abi Talib.' I said, 'About which of his affairs?' He said, 'When will he be resurrected?' I said, 'Glory be to Allah! He will be resurrected when those in the graves are resurrected.' He said, 'Do I not see you saying as these fools say?' So I said, 'Take this one away from me; he shall never enter upon me, or I will strike him.'
