✧ Some livestock were gathered with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: "O Abu Dharr, go out to pasture with them." So I went out to al-Rabadhah, and I would be afflicted with major ritual impurity, and I would remain for five or six days. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Abu Dharr said: I remained silent. He said: "May your mother lose you, Abu Dharr! Woe to your mother!" Then he called for a servant girl, and she brought a wooden bowl of water. She screened me with a cloth, and I screened myself with the mount. I bathed, and it was as if I had cast off a mountain from myself. He said: "Clean earth is the ablution of the Muslim, even up to ten years. But when you find water, let it touch your skin, for that is better."
Notes
machine translation"This is an authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith, and the two [al-Bukhārī and Muslim] did not record it, since we did not find for ʿAmr b. Bujdān any narrator other than Abū Qilābah al-Jarmī. This falls under what I stipulated, and it is established that the two recorded the like of this in several places in the two books." Authentic (ṣaḥīḥ).

machine translationAbū Qilābah narrates it from ʿAmr b. Bujdān, and there is disagreement about it from him. Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ narrated it from Abū Qilābah from ʿAmr b. Bujdān from Abū Dharr, and the students of Khālid did not differ about it from him. Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī narrated it from Abū Qilābah, and there is disagreement from him. Mukhallad b. Yazīd narrated it from al-Thawrī from Ayyūb and Khālid, from Abū Qilābah, from ʿAmr b. Bujdān, from Abū Dharr. I think he took the hadith of Ayyūb to be the hadith of Khālid, because Ayyūb narrates it from Abū Qilābah from a man whom he did not name, from Abū Dharr. ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated it from al-Thawrī from the two of them, and he preserved it accurately and distinguished the wording of each from the other, and he came with what is correct. Ibrāhīm b. Khālid followed him in that, from al-Thawrī from Ayyūb and Khālid, distinguishing the wording of each correctly. Abū Aḥmad al-Zubayrī and ʿAbd al-Ghaffār b. al-Ḥasan both narrated it from al-Thawrī from Ayyūb from Abū Qilābah from Abū Dharr as a mursal report. al-Firyābī, Wakīʿ and Abū Ḥudhayfah narrated it from al-Thawrī from Ayyūb from Abū Qilābah from a man from Abū Dharr. Likewise said Maʿmar, ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAmr, ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Thaqafī, Ismāʿīl b. ʿUlayyah, Ḥammād b. Salamah, Ḥammād b. Zayd and Wuhayb, from Ayyūb from Abū Qilābah from a man of Banū ʿĀmir from Abū Dharr. Mūsā b. Khalaf al-ʿAmmī narrated it from Ayyūb from Abū Qilābah from Abū al-Muhallab his uncle from Abū Dharr, but he was not followed on this statement. Ibn ʿUyaynah transmitted it as mursal from Ayyūb from Abū Qilābah from Abū Dharr, and did not mention anyone between them. Saʿīd b. Bashīr narrated it from Qatādah from Abū Qilābah, and said: from Rajāʾ b. ʿĀmir from Abū Dharr, but he only meant to say "from a man of Banū ʿĀmir." Hishām al-Dastuwāʾī said, from Qatādah from Abū Qilābah, that a man of Banū Qushayr said: "O Prophet of God," without mentioning Abū Dharr, and he transmitted it as mursal. The correct statement is the statement of Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ.
