✧ When the first fitna came, it became problematic for me. I said, 'O Allah, show me from the truth a matter I can hold onto.' Then I saw in a dream the world and the Hereafter, and between them was a wall, not tall, and I was beneath it. I said, 'If I climb this wall until I can look at the bravest of the dead, they will inform me.' He said: 'I was brought down to a land with trees, and there was a group of people sitting. I said, "Are you the martyrs?" They said, "We are the angels." I said, "Where are the martyrs?" They said, "Go forward to the ranks." So I ascended a rank, Allah knows best its beauty and vastness, and there I was with Muhammad ﷺ, and Ibrahim was an old man, and he was saying to Ibrahim, "Seek forgiveness for my nation," and Ibrahim was saying, "You do not know what they innovated after you; they shed their blood and killed their imam. Why did they not do as Sa'd, my friend, did?" I said, "By Allah, I have seen a dream; perhaps Allah will benefit me by it. I will go and look for Sa'd's position and be with him." So I came to Sa'd and told him the story. He said: 'He was not overjoyed by it.' And he said, 'Whoever is not a friend of Ibrahim has failed.' I said, 'With which of the two factions are you?' He said, 'I am not with either of them.' I said, 'What do you command me?' He said, 'Do you have sheep?' I said, 'No.' He said, 'Buy sheep and stay with them until it clears.'
