أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الشَّهِيدُ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى ثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الدَّغُولِيُّ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ ثَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ عَدِيٍّ ثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ
رُمِيَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ بِسَهْمٍ يَوْمَ الطَّائِفِ فَانْتُقِضَتْ بِهِ بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِأَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً فَمَاتَ فَدَخَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَقَالَ «أَيْ بُنَيَّةُ وَاللَّهِ لَكَأَنَّمَا أُخِذَ بِأُذُنِ شَاةٍ فَأُخْرِجَتْ مِنْ دَارِنَا» فَقَالَتِ «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي رَبَطَ عَلَى قَلْبِكَ وَعَزَمَ لَكَ عَلَى رُشْدِكَ» فَخَرَجَ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ فَقَالَ «أَيْ بُنَيَّةُ أَتَخَافُونَ أَنْ تَكُونُوا دَفَنْتُمْ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ حَيٌّ؟» فَقَالَتْ «إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ يَا أَبَتِ» فَقَالَ أَسْتَعِيذُ بِاللَّهِ السَّمِيعِ الْعَلِيمِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ أَيْ بُنَيَّةُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا وَلَهُ لِمَّتَانِ لِمَّةٌ مِنَ الْمَلَكِ وَلِمَّةٌ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ قَالَ فَقَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ وَفْدُ ثَقِيفٍ وَلَمْ يَزَلْ ذَلِكَ السَّهْمُ عَنَاهُ فَأَخْرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ «هَلْ يَعْرِفُ هَذَا السَّهْمَ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ؟» فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ أَخُو بَنِي الْعَجْلَانِ هَذَا سَهْمٌ أَنَا بَرَيْتُهُ وَرِشْتُهُ وَعَقَّبْتُهُ وَأَنَا رَمَيْتُ بِهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ «فَإِنَّ هَذَا السَّهْمَ الَّذِي قَتَلَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَكْرَمَهُ بِيَدِكَ وَلَمْ يَهْنِكَ بِيَدِهِ فَإِنَّهُ وَاسِعُ الْحِمَى»

✧ Abdullah b. Abi Bakr was struck by an arrow on the day of al-Ta’if, and it reopened his wound forty nights after the passing of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he died. Abu Bakr entered upon A’ishah and said, “O my little daughter, by Allah, it is as if he was taken by the ear of a sheep and brought out of our house.” She said, “Praise be to Allah who bound your heart and gave you resolve to follow right guidance.” He went out, then entered and said, “O my little daughter, do you fear that you have buried Abdullah while he was alive?” She said, “Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we return, O my father.” He said, “I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from Satan the accursed. O my little daughter, there is no one except that he has two promptings: a prompting from an angel and a prompting from Satan.” He said: The delegation of Thaqif came to him, and that arrow had not ceased to concern him, so he brought it out to them and said, “Does any of you recognize this arrow?” Sa’d b. Ubayd, the brother of Banu al-Ajlan, said, “This is an arrow that I shaped, feathered, and notched, and I shot it.” Abu Bakr said, “This arrow is the one that killed Abdullah b. Abi Bakr. Praise be to Allah who honored him by your hand and did not disgrace you by his hand, for He is the One who protects.”
