✧ When Ziyad sent Hujr b. 'Adi to Mu'awiya, Mu'awiya ordered his imprisonment at a place called Marj 'Adhra'. Then he consulted the people concerning him. He said, 'They began to say, "Killing, killing."' He said, 'Then 'Abd Allah b. Zayd b. Asad al-Bajali stood up and said, "O Commander of the Faithful, you are our shepherd and we are your flock; you are our pillar and we are your supports. If you punish, we say you have acted rightly, and if you pardon, we say you have done well. Pardon is closer to piety, and every shepherd is responsible for his flock."' He said, 'So the people dispersed after his statement.'
