حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ ثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو لَيْلَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ أَحَدُ بَنِي حَارِثَةَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ
«مَنْ لِهَذَا الْخَبِيثِ مَرْحَبٍ؟» فَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ «قُمْ إِلَيْهِ اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنْهُ» فَقَامَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ قَالَ جَابِرٌ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا رَأَيْتُ حَرْبًا بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ شَهِدْتُهُ مِثْلَهُمَا لَمَّا دَنَا أَحَدُهُمَا مِنْ صَاحِبِهِ وَقَعَتْ بَيْنَهُمَا شَجَرَةٌ فَجَعَلَ أَحَدُهُمَا يَلُوذُ بِهِ مِنْ صَاحِبِهِ فَإِذَا اسْتَتَرَ مِنْهَا بِشَيْءٍ وَجَدَ صَاحِبَهُ مَا يَلِيهِ مِنْهَا حَتَّى يَخْلُصَ إِلَيْهِ فَمَا زَالَا يَتَحَرَّفَانِهِ بِأَسْيَافِهِمَا فَضَرَبَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ سَيْفَهُ بِالدَّرَقَةِ فَوَقَعَ فِيهَا سَيْفًهُ وَلَمْ يَقْدِرْ مَرْحَبٌ أَنْ يَنْزِعَ سَيْفَهُ فَضَرَبَهُ مُحَمَّدٌ فَقَتَلَهُ

✧ 'Who will deal with this wicked one, Marhab?' Muhammad b. Maslamah said: I will, O Messenger of Allah. He said: 'Rise against him; O Allah, help him.' Muhammad b. Maslamah stood up. Jabir said: By Allah, I never saw a battle between two men that I witnessed like theirs. When one of them drew near to the other, a tree came between them, and each one began taking cover from his opponent behind it. When he hid behind something from it, his opponent found what was next to him from it until he reached him. They kept maneuvering with their swords, and Muhammad b. Maslamah struck Marhab's sword against the shield, so his sword became stuck in it, and Marhab could not pull his sword out. Then Muhammad struck him and killed him.
