حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ عِيسَى الْحِيرِيُّ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَرَ ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ يَقُولُ

بَعَثَنِي عُثْمَانُ فِي خَمْسِينَ فَارِسًا إِلَى ذِي خَشَبٍ وَأَمِيرُنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فِي عُنُقِهِ مُصْحَفٌ وَفِي يَدِهِ سَيْفٌ وَعَيْنَاهُ تَذْرِفَانِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا يَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نَضْرِبَ بِهَذَا عَلَى مَا فِي هَذَا فَقَالَ لَهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ «اجْلِسْ فَقَدْ ضَرَبْنَا بِهَذَا عَلَى مَا فِي هَذَا قَبْلَ أَنْ تُولَدَ» فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُكَلِّمُهُ حَتَّى رَجَعَ

Translation

✧ "To strike with this upon what is in this," Muhammad ibn Muslimah said to him, "Sit down, for we have struck with this upon what is in this before you were born." He continued to speak to him until he returned, "With a sound chain of narration according to the conditions of the two famous sheikhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) and they did not exclude it."
