حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ الْعَامِرِيُّ ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ
أَخَذَ حُذَيْفَةَ وَأَبَاهُ الْمُشْرِكُونَ قَبْلَ بَدْرٍ فَأَرَادُوا أَنْ يَقْتُلُوهُمَا فَأَخَذُوا عَلَيْهِمَا عَهْدَ اللَّهِ وَمِيثَاقَهُ أَنْ لَا يُعِينَانِ عَلَيْهِمْ فَحَلَفَا لَهُمْ فَأَرْسَلُوهُمَا فَأَتَيَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَا فَقَالَا إِنَّا قَدْ حَلَفْنَا لَهُمْ فَإِنْ شِئْتَ قَاتَلْنَا مَعَكَ فَقَالَ «نَفِي لَهُمْ بِعَهْدِهِمْ وَنَسْتَعِينُ اللَّهَ عَلَيْهِمْ»

✧ The polytheists captured Hudhayfah and his father before Badr and wanted to kill them. They took from them a covenant by Allah and His pact that they would not help against them, so the two swore to them, and they released them. They came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him, saying: "We have sworn to them, so if you wish, we will fight alongside you." He said: "We fulfill their covenant and seek Allah's help against them."
