✧ I entered upon Ali with Umar b. Talha after he had finished with the companions of the Camel. He said: He welcomed him and drew him near. He said, "I hope that Allah will make me and your father among those of whom Allah, exalted is He, said: 'And We shall remove whatever rancor is in their breasts, as brothers, on couches, facing one another' (al-Hijr 47)." He said, "O son of my brother, how is so-and-so? How is so-and-so?" He said: He asked him about the mothers of his father's children. He said: Then he said, "We did not seize your lands this year except for fear that the people would plunder them. O so-and-so, go with him to Banu Qurayza and order him to give him this year's produce and hand over his land to him." Two men sitting to one side, one of them al-Harith al-A'war, said, "Allah is more just than that—that we kill them and they be our brothers in Paradise." He said, "A people farthest and most remote in the land of Allah. Who is it then, if not I and Talha? O son of my brother, if you have a need, come to us."
