حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَالَوَيْهِ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْحَرْبِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ قَالَ حَبِيبُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَكْبَرُ بْنُ وَهْبِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ وائلةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ شَيْبَانَ بْنِ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ فِهْرٍ كَانَ شَرِيفًا قَدْ
سَمِعَ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَكَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُ حَبِيبُ الرُّومِ مِنْ كَثْرَةِ الدُّخُولِ عَلَيْهِمْ قَالَ وَفِيهِ يَقُولُ شُرَيْحُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ [البحر الطويل] أَلَا كُلُّ مَنْ يَدَّعِي حَبِيبًا وَلَوْ بَدَتْ مُرُوءَتُهُ تَفْدِي حَبِيبَ بَنِي فِهْرٍ هُمَامٌ يَقُودُ الْخَيْلَ حَتَّى كَأَنَّمَا يَطَأْنَ بِرَضْرَاضِ الْحَصَى حَاجِمَ الْجَمْرِسكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
Translation

✧ He heard from the Prophet ﷺ, and he was called Habib al-Rum because of his frequent raids against them. He said, 'And about him Shurayh b. al-Harith said [in tawil meter]: Indeed, everyone who claims to be Habib, even if his manliness appeared, would ransom Habib of Banu Fihr, a chief leading the horses as if they trampled with small pebbles the one who cups the embers.' Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
