✧ That al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Ḥaḍramī sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from al-Baḥrayn eighty thousand, and no wealth greater than it came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, neither before it nor after it. He commanded regarding it, and it was scattered on a mat, and the call to prayer was announced. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came, leaning over the wealth while standing. The people came and he began giving them, and on that day there was no counting nor weighing; it was nothing but handfuls. Then al-ʿAbbās came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I gave my ransom and the ransom of ʿAqīl on the day of Badr, and ʿAqīl had no wealth. Give me from this wealth." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Take." So he scooped into a cloak that was on him, then went to leave but could not, so he raised his head to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, lift it for me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said, "As for one of them, what Allah promised, He has fulfilled for me, and I do not know about the other. Say to those in your hands of the captives: If Allah knows any good in your hearts, He will give you better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you. This is better than what was taken from me, and I do not know what will be done with forgiveness." Abu ʿAlī al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī al-Ḥāfiẓ informed me, ʿAbdān al-Ahwāzī informed us, al-Ḥusayn b. al-Ḥārith al-Ahwāzī narrated to us, Hāshim b. al-Qāsim narrated to us, Sulaymān b. al-Mughīrah narrated to us, from Ḥumayd b.
