✧ While I was in my house in Kufa, I heard at the door of the house: 'Peace be upon you, may I enter?' I said: 'And upon you be peace, enter.' When he entered, it was Abdullah b. Mas'ud. I said: 'O Abu Abd al-Rahman, what hour is this for a visit?' That was at midday. He said: 'The day seemed long to me, so I remembered with whom I could converse.' Then he began to narrate to me from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I narrated to him. Then he started to tell me, saying: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "There will be a tribulation in which the one lying down is better than the one reclining, the one reclining is better than the one sitting, the one sitting is better than the one standing, the one standing is better than the one walking, and the one walking is better than the one riding. Its slain will all be in the Fire."' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, when is that?' He said: 'That is the days of killing (al-harj).' I said: 'When are the days of killing?' He said: 'When a man does not trust his companion.' I said: 'What do you command me to do if I reach that time?' He said: 'Restrain yourself and your hand, and enter your house.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what if someone enters my house upon me?' He said: 'Then enter your inner room.' I said: 'What if someone enters my inner room upon me?' He said: 'Then enter your mosque and do like this—or he grasped with his right hand on the wrist—and say: My Lord is Allah, until you die upon that.'
