al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 5274

Translation

✧ “How many a weak and oppressed person in two worn garments, if he swore by Allah, Allah would fulfill his oath! Among them is al-Bara’ b. Malik. Al-Bara’ met a company of the polytheists, and the polytheists had inflicted heavy losses on the Muslims.” They said, “O Bara’, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘If you swore by Allah, He would fulfill your oath,’ so swear by your Lord.” He said, “I adjure You, O Lord, to grant us victory over them.” Then they met at the bridge of al-Sus and inflicted heavy losses on the Muslims. They said to him, “O Bara’, swear by your Lord.” He said, “I adjure You, O Lord, to grant us victory over them and to join me with Your Prophet ﷺ.” So they were granted victory over them, and al-Bara’ was killed as a martyr.
