أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو مَعِينٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى الْعَطَّارُ بِمَرْوَ ثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَافِظُ ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَعْنٍ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ كَانَ الْبَرَاءُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ رَجُلًا حَسَنَ الصَّوْتِ فَكَانَ يَرْجُزُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ فَبَيْنَمَا هُوَ يَرْجُزُ إِذْ قَارَبَ النِّسَاءَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِيَّاكَ وَالْقَوَارِيرَ» قَالَ فَأَمْسَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ «كَرِهَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ تَسْمَعَ النِّسَاءُ صَوْتَهُ»

✧ I heard Anas b. Malik say: Al-Bara’ b. Malik was a man with a good voice, and he used to chant verses for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during some of his journeys. While he was chanting, he drew near the women, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “Beware of the glass vessels.” He said, “So he stopped.” Muhammad said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked that the women should hear his voice.”
