حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ ثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ ثَنَا أَزْهَرُ بْنُ جَمِيلٍ ثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْعَقَبَةِ بِفَارِسٍ وَقَدْ زَوَى النَّاسُ قَامَ الْبَرَاءُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ فَرَكِبَ فَرَسَهُ وَهِيَ تُزْجِي ثُمَّ قَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ بِئْسَ مَا عَوَّدْتُمْ أَقْرَانَكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ فَحَمَلَ عَلَى الْعَدُوِّ فَفَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَاسْتُشْهِدَ الْبَرَاءُ يَوْمَئِذٍ

Translation

✧ On the day of al-‘Aqaba in Persia, when the people had withdrawn, al-Bara’ b. Malik stood up, mounted his horse while it was slowly moving, then said to his companions, “Evil is what you have accustomed your peers to.” Then he charged at the enemy, and Allah granted victory to the Muslims, and al-Bara’ was martyred that day.
