✧ Some people were present at Umar's door, among them Suhail b. Amr, Abu Sufyan b. Harb, and elders from Quraysh. His doorkeeper came out and began to admit the people of Badr, such as Suhayb, Bilal, and Ammar. He said: By Allah, he was a Badri and he loved them, and he had been enjoined regarding them. Abu Sufyan said: "I have never seen anything like today. These slaves are admitted while we sit here and no one pays attention to us." Suhail b. Amr said: "What a man he was, how wise he was! O people, by Allah, I see what is in your faces. If you are angry, then be angry with yourselves. The people were called and you were called; they hastened and you delayed. By Allah, what they have surpassed you in of virtue, as they see, is more grievous for you to miss than this door of yours over which you compete." Then he said: "These people have surpassed you in what you see, and by Allah you have no way to what they have surpassed you in. Look to this jihad and cling to it; perhaps Allah ﷻ will grant you jihad and martyrdom." Then he shook his garment, stood up, and went to Syria.
Notes
