أَخْبَرَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُؤَمَّلِ ثنا أَبِي ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعُثْمَانِيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ
قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ لِأَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ لَمَّا وَجَهَّهُ إِلَى الشَّامِ «إِنِّي أَحَبُّ أَنْ تَعْلَمَ كَرَامَتَكَ عَلَيَّ وَمَنْزِلَتَكَ مِنِّي وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَلَا غَيْرِهِمْ أَعْدِلُهُ بِكَ وَلَا هَذَا يَعْنِي عُمَرَ وَلَهُ مِنَ الْمَنْزِلَةِ عِنْدِي إِلَّا دُونَ مَا لَكَ»

✧ Abu Bakr al-Siddiq said to Abu Ubaidah when he dispatched him to Syria: "I would like you to know your honor with me and your standing with me. By the One in whose hand is my soul, there is no man on earth among the Muhajirun or others whom I consider equal to you, and not even this one—meaning Umar—and his standing with me is below yours."
