أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ النَّصْرَأَبَاذِيُّ ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ صَيَّادٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ
لَمَّا قُبِضَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَلَغَ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ الْخَبَرُ قَالَ فَسَمِعَ أَبُو قُحَافَةَ الْهَائِعَةَ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا؟ قَالُوا تُوُفِّيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَالَ أَمَرٌ جَلِيلٌ فَمَنْ قَامَ بِالْأَمْرِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ؟ قَالُوا ابْنُكَ قَالَ وَرَضِيَتْ بَنُو مَخْزُومٍ وَبَنُو الْمُغِيرَةِ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَا وَاضِعَ لِمَا رَفَعْتَ وَلَا رَافِعَ لِمَا وَضَعْتَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ عِنْدَ رَأْسِ الْحَوْلِ تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالَ فَبَلَغَ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ الْخَبَرُ فَسَمِعَ أَبُو قُحَافَةَ الْهَائِعَةَ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا؟ قَالُوا تُوُفِّيَ ابْنُكَ قَالَ أَمْرٌ جَلِيلٌ وَالَّذِي كَانَ قَبْلَهُ أَجَلُّ مِنْهُ قَالَ فَمَنْ قَامَ بِالْأَمْرِ بَعْدَهُ؟ قَالُوا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ هُوَ صَاحِبُهُ «صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» لم يخرجا لعمارة بن عبد الله بن صياد شيئا

✧ When the Prophet ﷺ was taken, the news reached the people of Makkah. Abu Quhafa heard the clamor and said: “What is this?” They said: “The Prophet ﷺ has died.” He said: “A momentous affair. Who has undertaken the matter after him?” They said: “Your son.” He said: “And Banu Makhzum and Banu al-Mughirah are pleased?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “O Allah, there is no one to lower what You have raised, nor to raise what You have lowered.” When at the head of the year Abu Bakr died, the news reached the people of Makkah, and Abu Quhafa heard the clamor. He said: “What is this?” They said: “Your son has died.” He said: “A momentous affair, and the one before it was greater. Who has undertaken the matter after him?” They said: “Umar b. al-Khattab.” He said: “He is his companion.” — Sahih according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs, though they did not record it. They did not record anything by Umarah b. Abd Allah b. Sayyad.
