✧ From Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, she said: When the people of Makkah sent to ransom their captives, Zaynab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, sent to ransom Abu al-As with wealth, and she sent with it a necklace that Khadija had given her when she married Abu al-As. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that necklace, he felt great tenderness and said, 'If you see fit to release her captive and return to her what belongs to her, then do so.' They said, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' So they released him and returned to her what belonged to her. Abu al-As remained in his polytheism until just before the conquest of Makkah, when he went out with merchandise to Syria with funds belonging to Quraysh that they had entrusted to him. When he finished his trade and was returning, a raiding party of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met him. It is said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the one who dispatched the raiding party against the caravan in which Abu al-As was returning from Syria. They were one hundred and seventy riders, led by Zayd ibn Haritha, in Jumada al-Ula in the year six of the Hijra. They seized the goods in that caravan and captured some of its people, but Abu al-As eluded them by flight. When the raiding party arrived with what they had taken, Abu al-As came by night seeking his property until he entered upon Zaynab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and sought her protection, and she granted it. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out for the dawn prayer and said the takbir, the people said the takbir with him.
