أَخْبَرَنَا بِجَمِيعِ مَا ذَكَرْتُهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا ابْنُ رُسْتَةَ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ
«مَاتَ أَبُو مَرْثَدٍ الْغَنَوِيُّ كَنَّازُ بْنُ الْحُصَيْنِ حَلِيفُ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي خِلَافَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَقِيلَ الَّذِي مَاتَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي خِلَافَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ سَنَةَ اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ مَرْثَدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْثَدٍ» وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ قُتِلَ بِأَجْنَادِينَ

✧ "Abu Marthad al-Ghanawi, Kanaz b. al-Husayn, the ally of Hamzah b. 'Abd al-Muttalib, died in Madinah during the caliphate of Abu Bakr. It is said that the one who died in Madinah during the caliphate of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq in the year twelve was Marthad b. Abi Marthad." Others said he was killed at Ajnadayn.
