al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 4932

✧ virtues of Ja'far b. Abi Talib b. Abd al-Muttalib b. Hashim, who was martyred in the Battle of Mu'tah in the eighth year of Hijrah.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُزَنِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَرَّادٍ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ

أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي الَّذِي كَانَ أَرْضَعَنِي مِنْ بَنِي مُرَّةَ قَالَ «كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ يَوْمَ مُؤْتَةَ نَزَلَ عَنْ فَرَسٍ لَهُ فَعَرْقَبَهَا ثُمَّ مَضَى فَقَاتَلَ حَتَّى قُتِلَ»

✧ My father, who had nursed me, from Banu Murrah, informed me. He said: “It is as if I am looking at Ja'far b. Abi Talib on the day of Mu'tah. He dismounted from a horse of his and hamstrung it, then went forward and fought until he was killed.”
