✧ A man approached Hasan ibn Ali and said, "O you who have blackened the face of the believers!" Hasan replied, "Do not rebuke me, may Allah have mercy on you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw the Umayyads delivering sermons on his pulpit, one man after another, and it displeased him. Then the verse 'Indeed, We have granted you al-Kawthar'—a river in Paradise—was revealed. And the Surah 'Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months' was revealed, over which the Umayyads would rule. This is sufficient for us, and it neither increases nor decreases." This is a sound chain of narration, and the one who said this to Hasan ibn Ali was Sufyan ibn al-Layl, a companion of his father.
