✧ Umar b. al-Khattab proposed to Ali for Umm Kulthum, and said: Marry her to me. Ali said: I am reserving her for my nephew Abdullah b. Jafar. Umar said: Marry her to me, for by Allah, there is no one among the people who reserves for her what I reserve. So Ali married her to him. Then Umar came to the Muhajirun and said: Will you not congratulate me? They said: For whom, O Commander of the Believers? He said: For Umm Kulthum bt. Ali, the daughter of Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Every lineage and tie will be severed on the Day of Resurrection except my lineage and my tie.' So I loved that there be between me and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a lineage and a tie.
