✧ I heard Jabir b. Abd Allah say: "When the trench was being dug, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ suffering from severe hunger. I went to my wife and said, 'I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ suffering from severe hunger.' She brought out a sack containing a sa' of barley, and we had a tame animal. She slaughtered it and ground the sa'. I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and consulted him, saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, we have slaughtered an animal of ours and ground a sa' of barley that we had. Come, you and a small group with you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called out, 'O people of the trench, Jabir has prepared a meal, so come on!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not take down your cooking pot and do not bake your dough until I come.' I came, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came, and the people came forward until I went to my wife. She brought out dough, and he spat in it and blessed it. Then he said, 'Call a woman baker to bake with you, and ladle from your cooking pot, but do not take it down.' They were a thousand. Jabir swore by Allah, exalted is He, that they ate until they left it and departed, while our cooking pot was still bubbling as it was, and our dough was being baked as it was." This is the wording of the hadith of Abu Amr; in the wording of Abu al-Abbas it is abridged.
