أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ثنا هَاشِمُ بْنُ مَرْثَدٍ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ عِمْرَانَ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَوْنٍ عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ قَدِمْنَا الْيَمَنَ فِي رِحْلَةِ الشِّتَاءِ فَنَزَلْنَا عَلَى حَبْرٍ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ فَقَالَ لِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الزَّبُورِ يَا عَبْدَ الْمُطَّلِبِ أَتَأْذَنُ لِي أَنْ أَنْظُرَ إِلَى بَدَنِكَ مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ عَوْرَةً؟ قَالَ فَفَتَحَ إِحْدَى مَنْخَرَيَّ فَنَظَرَ فِيهِ ثُمَّ نَظَرَ فِي الْأُخْرَى فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ فِيَ إِحْدَى يَدَيْكَ مُلْكًا وَفِي الْأُخْرَى النُّبُوَّةَ وَأَرَى ذَلِكَ فِي بَنِي زُهْرَةَ فَكَيْفَ ذَلِكَ؟ فَقُلْتُ لَا أَدْرِي قَالَ هَلْ لَكَ مِنْ شَاعَةٍ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ وَمَا الشَّاعَةُ؟ قَالَ زَوْجَةٌ قُلْتُ أَمَّا الْيَوْمَ فَلَا قَالَ إِذَا قَدِمْتَ فَتَزَوَّجْ فِيهِمْ فَرَجَعَ عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ إِلَى مَكَّةَ فَتَزَوَّجَ هَالَةَ بِنْتَ وَهْبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ فَوَلَدَتْ لَهُ حَمْزَةَ وَصَفِيَّةَ وَتَزَوَّجَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ آمِنَةَ بِنْتَ وَهْبٍ فَوَلَدَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ قُرَيْشٌ حِينَ تَزَوَّجَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ آمِنَةَ فَلَحَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَلَى أَبِيهِ

✧ ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib said: “We came to Yemen in the winter journey and stopped at a Jewish rabbi. A man of the people of the Psalms said to me: ‘O ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, will you permit me to look at your body, except for what is private?’ He opened one of my nostrils and looked into it, then looked into the other. Then he said: ‘I bear witness that in one of your hands there is kingship and in the other prophethood, and I see that in Banū Zuhrah. How is that?’ I said: ‘I do not know.’ He said: ‘Do you have a wife (shaʿah)?’ I said: ‘What is shaʿah?’ He said: ‘A wife.’ I said: ‘Not at present.’ He said: ‘When you return, marry among them.’ So ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib returned to Makkah and married Hālah bt. Wahb b. ʿAbd Manāf, and she bore him Ḥamzah and Ṣafiyyah. And ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib married Āminah bt. Wahb, and she bore the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Quraysh said when ʿAbd Allāh married Āminah: ‘ʿAbd Allāh has surpassed his father.’”
