✧ Zakariya called upon his Lord in secret, saying: "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has flared with gray hair, and I have never been disappointed in supplicating You, my Lord. Indeed, I fear the successors after me, and they are the 'asaba, and my wife has been barren, so grant me from Yourself a heir who will inherit me and inherit prophethood, and inherit from the family of Ya'qub, inheriting the prophethood of the family of Ya'qub, and make him, my Lord, pleasing." And His saying, "Grant me from Yourself a good offspring"—He says its positions—"indeed You are the Hearer of supplication." And He said, "My Lord, do not leave me alone, and You are the best of inheritors." Then the angels called him—he is Jibril—while he was standing praying in the mihrab: "Allah gives you glad tidings of a boy whose name is Yahya; We have not assigned to him before any namesake," no one before him was named Yahya. And the angels said, "Indeed Allah gives you glad tidings of Yahya, confirming a word from Allah, confirming 'Isa, and a hasur," and the hasur is the one who does not desire women. When he heard the call, Satan came to him and said, "O Zakariya, the voice you heard is not from Allah; it is only from Satan mocking you. If it were from Allah, He would have revealed it to you as He reveals other matters to you." Then he doubted in his place and said, "How can I have a boy"—he says from where—"when old age has reached me and my wife is barren?" He said, "Thus Allah does what He wills, and I created you before, and you were nothing."
