al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 4131

Translation

✧ From his father regarding the words of Allah Almighty: {Have you not considered those who left their homes in thousands, fearing death?} [Qur'an 2:243] up to His words {And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers} [Qur'an 2:95]. He said: Allah Almighty revealed to their prophet that among the children of so-and-so there is a man by whom Allah will slay Goliath. Of his signs is this horn: if it is placed on his head, it will grasp whatever it misses. So he came to him and said, 'Allah has revealed to me that among your children there is a man by whom Allah will slay Goliath.' He said, 'Yes, O Prophet of Allah.' He said, 'Then he brought out twelve men like pillars, among them a man outstanding above them. He began presenting them to the horn, but he saw nothing.' Then he said, 'Do you have a child other than these?' He said, 'Yes, O Prophet of Allah, I have a short son whom I was ashamed for people to see, so I put him with the sheep.' He said, 'Where is he?' He said, 'He is in such-and-such a mountain pass.' So he went out to him and said, 'This is he, no doubt about it.' Then he placed the horn on his head and it fitted. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
