✧ It was mentioned to me that concerning the death of the chosen one of Allah, Moses ﷺ: he used to shade himself in a booth and eat and drink from a hollowed-out stone, lapping from it like an animal, out of humility for Allah, until Allah honored him with what He honored him with of His speech. Regarding his death: he went out one day from his booth for some need, unknown to any of Allah's creation. He passed by a group of angels digging a grave. He recognized them and approached them until he stood over them, and they were digging a grave the like of which he had never seen anything more beautiful in its greenery, freshness, and splendor. He said to them: "O angels of Allah, for whom are you digging this grave?" They said: "By Allah, we are digging it for a servant noble to his Lord." He said: "This servant has a standing with Allah such that I have never seen a resting place or entrance like today." That was when what was to come from Allah regarding his taking came. The angels said to him: "O chosen one of Allah, would you like to be that one?" He said: "I wish it." They said: "Then descend and lie in it, and turn to your Lord, then breathe the easiest breath you have ever breathed." He descended, lay in it, turned to his Lord, then breathed, and Allah took his soul. Then the angels prayed over him. The chosen one of Allah, Moses ﷺ, was ascetic in this world, desirous of the hereafter.
