✧ When the angels departed from Ibrahim toward the town of Lut and reached it at midday, when they arrived at the river of Sodum, they met the daughter of Lut drawing water for her family (he had two daughters). They said to her, "O girl, is there a place to stay?" She said, "Yes, stay where you are; do not enter until I come to you." She went to her father and said, "O my father, help some young men at the gate of the city; I have not seen faces of people more handsome than theirs. Do not let your people take them and disgrace them." His people had forbidden him from hosting any man, to the point that they said, "If he hosts someone among us, let him host the men." So he went to them without informing anyone except the household of Lut. His wife went out and told his people, saying, "In the house of Lut there are men whose like I have never seen." His people came rushing to him. When they came, Lut said to them, "O my people, fear Allah and do not disgrace me regarding my guest. Is there not among you a right-minded man? These are my daughters; they are purer for you than what you want." They said to him, "Did we not forbid you from hosting men? You know that we have no right to your daughters, and you know what we want." When they did not accept what he offered them, he said, "If only I had against you some power or could take refuge in a strong support," meaning, may Allah's prayers be upon him, "If only I had supporters to help me against you or a clan to protect me from you, they would come between you and what you came wanting from my guests." When Lut said, "If only I had against you some power or could take refuge in a strong support," Jibril then spread his wings and blinded their eyes. They left, some stumbling over the tracks of others, blind, saying, "Flee, flee! In the house of Lut are the most skilled sorcerers on earth." That is the saying of Allah, Exalted is He: {And they had sought from him his guests, so We obliterated their eyes} [Al-Qamar 54:37]. They said, "O Lut, indeed we are messengers of your Lord; they will never reach you. So set out with your family during a portion of the night and let not any of you turn back, except your wife. Follow the tracks of your family," meaning, "And proceed where you are commanded." So Allah brought them out to Syria. Lut said, "Destroy them now." They said, "We have not been commanded except for the morning. Is not the morning near?" When it was the time before dawn, Lut and his family went out, except his wife. That is the saying of Allah, Exalted is He: {Except the family of Lut; We saved them before dawn} [Al-Qamar 54:34].
