ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ثنا أَبُو شِهَابٍ وَحَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ ثنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْعَوْذِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ ثنا أَبُو شِهَابٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ «إِيَّاكُمْ وَكَثْرَةَ الْحَدِيثِ عَنِّي فَمَنْ قَالَ عَنِّي فَلَا يَقُولُ إِلَّا حَقًّا وَمَنْ قَالَ عَلَيَّ مَا لَمْ أَقُلْ فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ» وَفِي حَدِيثِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ كَعْبٍ وَغَيْرُهُ عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ

Ahmad al-'Awdi narrated to us, Abu al-Rabi' narrated to us, Abu Shihab narrated to us, from Muhammad b. Ishaq, from Ma'bad b. Ka'b b. Malik, who said: I heard Abu Qatadah say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say while he was on the pulpit: “Beware of narrating too much from me. Whoever says something about me, let him say nothing but the truth. Whoever attributes to me what I did not say, let him take his seat in the Fire.” In the hadith of Muhammad b. 'Ubayd: Ibn Ka'b and others narrated to me from Abu Qatadah.
