حَدَّثَنِي الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ الْحَافِظُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ أَنَّ أَحْمَدَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَهُمْ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

أَسْلَمَ غَيْلَانُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الثَّقَفِيُّ وَلَهُ ثَمَانِ نِسْوَةٍ «فَأَمَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَتَخَيَّرَ مِنْهُنَّ أَرْبَعًا» وَهَكَذَا وَجَدْتُ الْحَدِيثَ عِنْدَ الْأَئِمَّةِ الْخُرَاسَانِيِّينَ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ أحمد بن محمد كذاب

✧ Ghaylan b. Salamah al-Thaqafi accepted Islam while he had eight wives, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him to choose four of them. And thus I found the hadith among the imams of Khurasan from Ma'mar. Ahmad b. Muhammad is a liar.
