✧ About striking women. Then they complained about them to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he allowed them to strike them. Then he said: Tonight seventy women surrounded the family of Muhammad ﷺ, all of them having been struck. Yahya said: And I think that al-Qasim said: Then it was said to them afterwards: «And the best of you will never strike.»

machine translationYaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Anṣārī narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Ibn ʿUyaynah, Layth b. Saʿd, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Sulaymān and Jarīr narrated it from Yaḥyā, from Ḥumayd b. Nāfiʿ, from Umm Kulthūm bt. Abī Bakr. ʿAdī b. al-Faḍl narrated it from Yaḥyā, from ʿAmrah, from ʿĀʾishah, and he erred in it. The correct (ṣaḥīḥ) version is the ḥadīth of Ḥumayd b. Nāfiʿ from Umm Kulthūm. Likewise Abū al-Aswad, the orphan of ʿUrwah, narrated it from Ḥumayd b. Nāfiʿ.
