أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ الْيَمَامِيُّ وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْرَائِيلَ اللُّؤْلُؤِيُّ قَالَا ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِيَاسِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَرَّ عَلَى نَاسٍ يَنْتَضِلُونَ فَقَالَ «حَسَنٌ هَذَا اللَّهُمَّ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا ارْمُوا وَأَنَا مَعَ ابْنِ الْأَدْرَعِ» فَأَمْسَكَ الْقَوْمُ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ فَقَالُوا أَلَا وَاللَّهِ لَا نَرْمِي مَعَهُ وَأَنْتَ مَعَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِذًا يَنْضِلُنَا فَقَالَ «ارْمُوا وَأَنَا مَعَكُمْ جَمِيعًا» وَقَالَا فَقَالَ لَقَدْ رَمَوْا عَامَّةَ يَوْمِهِمْ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ تَفَرَّقُوا عَلَى السَّوَاءِ مَا نَضَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا

Translation

✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by some people shooting arrows and said: "This is good. O Allah," twice or thrice. "Shoot, and I am with the son of al-Adra'." The people stopped their hands and said: "By Allah, we will not shoot with him while you are with him, O Messenger of Allah; then he will outshoot us." He said: "Shoot, and I am with all of you." They said: "They shot for most of that day, then dispersed evenly; none of them outshot the others."
