✧ From Abu 'Ali al-Janbi, from Abu Rayhana, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on an expedition, and we reached a high place. Severe cold afflicted us, until one of us would dig a pit, then enter it and cover himself with his shield. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that from the people, he said: “Is there not a man who will guard us tonight? I will supplicate Allah for him with a supplication by which he will attain excellence.” A man from the Ansar stood up and said: “I will, O Messenger of Allah.” So he supplicated for him. Abu Rayhana said: Then I said: “I will,” and he supplicated for me with a supplication lesser than what he did for the Ansari. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The Fire is forbidden to an eye that shed tears from fear of Allah. The Fire is forbidden to an eye that stayed awake in the path of Allah.” He said: And I forgot the third. Abu Shurayh said: I later heard that he said: “The Fire is forbidden to an eye that lowered its gaze from what Allah has forbidden, or an eye blinded in the path of Allah.”
