✧ On the day of Uhud he said, 'Will you not come so that we may supplicate Allah?' So they went off to a corner. Sa'd supplicated and said, 'O Lord, when we meet the enemy tomorrow, grant me a man of fierce might and fierce anger, so that I may fight him for Your sake and he fights me. Then grant me victory over him until I kill him and take his spoils.' Then Abdullah b. Jahsh stood up and said, 'O Allah, grant me tomorrow a man of fierce anger and fierce might; I fight him for Your sake and he fights me. Then he seizes me and cuts off my nose and ear. Then when I meet You tomorrow, You will say, "O Abdullah, for what were your nose and ear cut off?" and I will say, "For You and Your Messenger," and You will say, "You have spoken truth."' Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas said, 'O my son, the supplication of Abdullah b. Jahsh was better than my supplication. I saw him at the end of the day, and his ear and nose were hung on a thread.'
