✧ From 'Awf b. Malik that they were with the Prophet ﷺ on one of his campaigns. 'Awf said: I heard behind me a humming like the humming of a mill, and there was the Prophet ﷺ. I said, 'When the Prophet ﷺ is in enemy territory, guards are posted over him.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A messenger from my Lord came to me and gave me a choice between admitting half of my nation to Paradise and intercession, and I chose intercession.' Mu'adh b. Jabal said, 'O Messenger of Allah, you know my strength, so make me one of them.' He said, 'You are one of them.' 'Awf b. Malik said, 'O Messenger of Allah, you know that we left our people and our wealth desiring Allah and His Messenger, so make us among them.' He said, 'You are one of them.' Then we came to the people, and they had risen. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Sit down.' They sat down as if none of them had stood up. He said, 'A messenger from my Lord came to me and gave me a choice between admitting half of my nation to Paradise and intercession, and I chose intercession.' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, make us among them.' He said, 'It is for whoever dies not associating anything with Allah.'
