✧ Al-Qa‘nabi narrated to us: ‘Abd al-‘Aziz b. Muhammad narrated to us: al-‘Ala’ b. ‘Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Abu Kathir, the freed slave of Muhammad b. Jahsh, from Muhammad b. Jahsh, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting where the funeral biers are placed. He raised his head toward the sky, then lowered his gaze and placed his hand on his forehead and said: “Glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah! What severity has Allah sent down?” He said: We understood and remained silent. The next day I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: “O Messenger of Allah, what is the severity that came down?” He said: “Regarding debt. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if a man were killed in the path of Allah, then brought back to life, and had a debt, he would not enter Paradise until he paid it off.”
