machine translationThe upshot of the disagreement about it is that it was disputed concerning Simāk: at times he narrated it from Abū Ṣāliḥ Bādhān, who is weak (ḍaʿīf), and at other times from Jaʿdah, who is unknown (majhūl).
in المستدرك على الصحيحين, p. 1605 - Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī
machine translationThis hadith has inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) in both its text and its chain. As for the inconsistency of its chain, Simāk differed about it: at times he narrated it from Abū Ṣāliḥ, at times from Jaʿdah, and at times from Hārūn. As for Abū Ṣāliḥ, he is Bādhān, also called Bādhām; they declared him weak (ḍaʿīf).
in المستدرك على الصحيحين, p. 1605 - Aḥmad ibn Shuʿayb al-Nasāʾī
machine translationThere is disagreement about Simāk concerning it, and Simāk is not relied upon when he is alone in transmitting a hadith.
machine translationThere is disagreement in its chain, and disagreement in its wording.

machine translationSimāk b. Ḥarb narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Ḥammād b. Salamah and Abū l-Aḥwaṣ, in the narration of Musaddad from him, narrated it from Simāk, from Hārūn the son of the daughter of Umm Hāniʾ, from Umm Hāniʾ. Someone other than Musaddad said, from Abū l-Aḥwaṣ, from Simāk, from the son of Umm Hāniʾ. Abū ʿAwānah said, from Simāk, from the son of Umm Hāniʾ, from Umm Hāniʾ. Al-Walīd b. Abī Thawr said, from Simāk, from Yaḥyā b. Jaʿdah, from his grandmother Umm Hāniʾ. Saʿīd b. Simāk b. Ḥarb said, from his father, from Jaʿdah, from Umm Hāniʾ. Abū Ḥamzah al-Sukkarī said, from a shaykh of his, from Simāk, from a man, from the family of Ḥamzah, from Umm Hāniʾ. There is also disagreement about Shuʿbah: Muʿādh b. Muʿādh narrated it from Shuʿbah, from Jaʿdah, as a mursal; and Abū Dāwūd narrated it from Shuʿbah, from Simāk, from the son of Umm Hāniʾ. Shuʿbah said: I met one of the two, who was called Jaʿdah, and he informed us from Umm Hāniʾ that the Prophet ﷺ said: "The one fasting voluntarily is the trustee of himself; if he wishes he fasts, and if he wishes he breaks the fast." Shuʿbah said: I said to Jaʿdah, did you hear it from Umm Hāniʾ? Ghundar said, from Shuʿbah, from Jaʿdah, from Umm Hāniʾ. Ḥātim b. Abī Ṣaghīrah said, from Simāk, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Umm Hāniʾ. The inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) in it comes from Simāk b. Ḥarb.
