أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَنْبَأَ أَبُو الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُلَيَّةَ عَنْ عُيَيْنَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
ذَكَرْتُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ عِنْدَ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ فَقَالَ «مَا أَنَا بِطَالِبِهَا إِلَّا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ فِي تِسْعٍ أَوْ فِي سَبْعٍ يَبْقَيْنَ أَوْ خَمْسٍ يَبْقَيْنَ أَوْ فِي ثَلَاثٍ يَبْقَيْنَ أَوْ فِي آخِرِ لَيْلَةٍ» فَكَانَ لَا يُصَلِّي فِي الْعِشْرِينَ إِلَّا صَلَاتَهُ سَائِرَ السَّنَةِ فَإِذَا دَخَلَ الْعَشْرُ اجْتَهَدَ
Translation

✧ I mentioned the Night of Decree in the presence of Abu Bakrah, and he said, "I do not seek it except in the last ten: in the ninth or seventh remaining, or the fifth remaining, or the third remaining, or the last night." He used not to pray in the twenty nights except as he prayed throughout the rest of the year, but when the ten entered, he exerted himself.
