حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْدَهْ ثنا بَكْرُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ وَأَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ثنا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْقَطِيعِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالُوا ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْهَجَرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى قَالَ
تُوُفِّيَتْ بِنْتٌ لَهُ فَتَبِعَهَا عَلَى بَغْلَةٍ يَمْشِي خَلْفَ الْجِنَازَةِ وَنِسَاءٌ يَرْثِينَهَا فَقَالَ يَرْثِينَ أَوْ لَا يَرْثِينَ «فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْمَرَاثِي» وَلْتُفِضْ إِحْدَاكُنَّ مِنْ عَبْرَتِهَا مَا شَاءَتْ ثُمَّ «صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا فَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهَا أَرْبَعًا ثُمَّ قَامَ بَعْدَ الرَّابِعَةِ قَدْرَ مَا بَيْنَ التَّكْبِيرَتَيْنِ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لَهَا وَيَدْعُو» وَقَالَ «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصْنَعُ هَكَذَا»

✧ A daughter of his died, and he followed her on a mule, walking behind the funeral, while women were lamenting her. He said, "Are they lamenting or not lamenting? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade lamentations. Let each of you shed tears as much as she wishes." Then he prayed over her and said four takbirs, then after the fourth he stood for the length between two takbirs, seeking forgiveness for her and supplicating. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do this."
