    سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ: أَيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قَالَ: الصَّلَاةُ لِوَقْتِهَا، وَبِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ، وَالْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ

    ✧ I asked the Messenger of God ﷺ: "Which deeds are best?" He said: "Prayer at its proper time, dutifulness to parents, and striving in the path of God."

    لَمَّا هَاجَرْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ قَسَمَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَشَرَةً عَشَرَةً، فَكُنْتُ فِي الْعَشَرَةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَكَانَتْ لَنَا شَاةٌ نَشْرَبُ لَبَنَهَا بَيْنَنَا، فَأَبْطَأَ عَلَيْنَا لَيْلَةً، وَقَدْ رَفَعْنَا لَهُ نَصِيبَهُ، فَقُمْتُ إِلَيْهِ وَأَنَا جَائِعٌ، فَشَرِبْتُهُ، فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَلَمْ أَنَمْ بَعْدُ، فَأَتَى الْإِنَاءَ الَّذِي كُنَّا نَضَعُ فِيهِ اللَّبَنَ، فَلَمْ يَجِدْ فِيهِ شَيْئًا، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَلَا أَذْبَحُهَا ؟ فَقَالَ: " لَا

    ✧ When we emigrated to Madinah, the Messenger of God ﷺ divided us into groups of ten. I was in the group of ten that was with the Messenger of God ﷺ. We had a sheep whose milk we drank among ourselves. One night he was late, and we had set aside his share for him. I got up while I was hungry and drank it. Then the Prophet ﷺ came while I had not yet slept. He went to the vessel in which we used to put the milk and found nothing in it. I said, "O Messenger of God, shall I slaughter it?" He said, "No."

    كَانَ رَسُولُ ﷺ يُوتِرُ بِتِسْعِ سُوَرٍ فِي ثَلَاثِ رَكَعَاتٍ: أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ، وَ إِنَّا أَنْـزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ، وَ إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ الأَرْضُ فِي رَكْعَةٍ، وَفِي الثَّانِيَةِ: وَالْعَصْرِ، وَ إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللهِ وَ إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ، وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ: قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ، وَ تَبَّتْ، وَ قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ

    ✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ used to perform witr with nine surahs in three rak'ahs: 'The mutual rivalry for piling up' (al-Takathur), 'Indeed, We sent it down on the Night of Decree' (al-Qadr), and 'When the earth is shaken' (al-Zalzalah) in one rak'ah; in the second: 'By time' (al-'Asr), 'When the victory of God comes' (al-Nasr), and 'Indeed, We have granted you the Abundance' (al-Kawthar); and in the third: 'Say, O disbelievers' (al-Kafirun), 'May the hands of Abu Lahab perish' (al-Masad), and 'Say, He is God, the One' (al-Ikhlas).
