65. The expedition of Dūmat al-Jandal

    غَزْوَةُ دَوْمَةِ الْجَنْدَلِ فِي شَهْرِ رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ سَنَةَ خَمْسٍ [ مَوْعِدُهَا ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، فَأَقَامَ مِنْ مَقْدَمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِهَا أَشْهُرًا حَتَّى مَضَى ذُو الْحِجَّةِ وَوَلِيَ تِلْكَ الْحِجَّةَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ وَهِيَ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ ثُمَّ غَزَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ دَوْمَةَ الْجَنْدَلِ

    ✧ The expedition of Dūmah al-Jandal in the month of Rabīʿ al-Awwal, year five. [Its time.] Ibn Isḥāq said: Then the Messenger of God ﷺ returned to al-Madīnah, and he stayed there, from the arrival of the Messenger of God ﷺ, for months until Dhū al-Ḥijjah passed and the polytheists had charge of that pilgrimage, which was in year four. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ raided Dūmah al-Jandal.

    [ اسْتِعْمَالُ ابْنِ عُرْفُطَةَ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ ] قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: فِي شَهْرِ رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ، وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ سِبَاعَ بْنَ عُرْفُطَةَ الْغِفَارِيَّ. [ رُجُوعُ الرَّسُولِ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: ثُمَّ رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَصِلَ إلَيْهَا، وَلَمْ يَلْقَ كَيْدًا، فَأَقَامَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ بَقِيَّةَ سَنَتِهِ

    ✧ [The appointment of Ibn ʿUrfuṭah over Madinah] Ibn Hishām said: In the month of Rabīʿ al-Awwal, he appointed Sibāʿ b. ʿUrfuṭah al-Ghifārī over Madinah. [The return of the Messenger] Ibn Isḥāq said: Then the Messenger of God ﷺ returned before reaching it, and he encountered no treachery. He remained in Madinah for the rest of that year.
