✧ That 'Umar b. al-Khattab consulted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about giving his property at Thamgh as charity. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Give it as charity, dividing its fruit and withholding its origin; it is not to be sold, given as a gift, or inherited."
✧ 'Umar acquired land at Khaybar and went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to consult him. He said: "I have acquired land at Khaybar, and I have never acquired property more precious to me than it; what do you command regarding it?" He said: "If you wish, withhold its origin and give it as charity, on condition that it is not sold, given as a gift, or inherited." So he gave it as charity for the poor, the strangers, the slaves, in the way of God, the traveler, and the guest. There is no blame on the one who administers it to eat from it in a reasonable manner or to feed a friend without seeking to enrich himself from it.
✧ "The best of what a man leaves after his death are three: a righteous child who prays for him, a continuous charity whose reward reaches him, and knowledge from which benefit is derived after him."
